Named after the famous director, Alfred Hitchcock Mystery magazine is geared towards mystery and crime fans. Started back in 1956 by HSD Publications, Alfred Hitchcock Mystery is the second oldest US magazine dedicated to the subject. It was published by David from 1976 until 1997 when Dell Magazines took over. Each issue includes at least seven original stories covering the whole mystery range - from classic mystery to suspense. Those stories have various lengths - from very short ones to novellas while the "Mystery Classic" section presents a short story from the past. Fans are welcome to contribute their own stories - the magazine's website offers detailed guidelines for writers, however, it accepts only hard copies of the stories, which, in addition, should not have been published on the web. Black and white fan mystery art is accepted as well. Each issue includes a challenging mystery puzzle and genre oriented book reviews. The magazine also conducts a contest for a creative photograph accompanied by an original 250-word short story complying with its style. Alfred Hitchcock Mystery has 11 digest-sized issues per year of 144 pages each, with a double July-August issue.
