Black Issues Book Review Magazine is a periodical appearing every other month with 6 issues per year. The Black Issues Book Review focuses on African-American literature. The magazine mainly comprises book reviews and discussions focusing on all kinds of fiction and non-fiction publications, including children??™s literature by black authors of African descent. Each issue also includes authors??™ profiles and/or interviews, self-published poetry, news on upcoming events, conferences, shows and exhibits. Regular features include Between the Lines which provides inside information on what??™s happening in the publishing industry; Black Issues Book Review Spotlight, which concentrates on new and unnoticed black authors; Flying Off the Shelves, a rumor mill for readers; Faith, which offers reviews inspirational, motivational and spiritual books; Eye & Gallery, offering reviews on art and visual books.Black Issues Book Review was founded in 1998 by William E. Cox, President of Cox, Matthews & Associates, Inc.. Other CMA publications include Black Issues in Higher Education and Community College Week. In 1999 Black Issues Book Review was named one of the the ten best new magazines by The American Library Journal from more than a thousand new publications. In 2006, Black Issues Book Review magazine was acquired by Target Market News Inc , a Chicago-based news and research company. Black Issues Book Review is distributed through paid subscriptions as well as newsstands and book stores.
