When we think of flowers, we think: warm, natural, tactile, real. When we think of computers, we think: cold, artificial, virtual, fake. And yet computers are made and used by humans, as real and true a creation as a loaf of bread or a wool scarf. The difference we perceive appears, rather, a matter of aesthetics: the computer seems cold and inhuman, and its products seem like they were made by the computer. But they aren't-any more than a painting is made by a paintbrush and canvas. People make them.
